Grading every Premier League Club’s transfer window.

Arsenal: A-

Arsenal’s marquee signing for this transfer window was Italian defender Ricardo Calafiori, who should bolster the Gunners’ already outstanding defense and provide cover in case of any injuries. In addition to adding young talent, Arsenal brought in some experience by signing Mikel Merino permanently and loaning in Neto and Raheem Sterling. These additions could help Arsenal get over the line in big games and possibly deliver that elusive Premier League title. Arsenal were also impressive in the outgoings department, significantly decreasing their wage bill. They moved on players who weren't going to be involved in the upcoming season, such as Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah, and Aaron Ramsdale, all for sizeable fees—great business for all parties. The only caveat to Arsenal’s window would be that they couldve brought in a clinical number 9, and to question whether their squad has actually improved since last season. The only way to tell is to watch the season unfold.

Aston Villa: B+

Aston Villa’s main departure was Douglas Luiz to Juventus, with Villa replacing him with Amadou Onana from Everton. Onana is a top player who will shine for Villa; however, he does not fill the void left by Douglas Luiz as a goal threat and technically excellent ball carrier. They have strengthened their squad with some key signings, most notably Ian Maatsen from Chelsea, who should hopefully bring some Champions League experience to Villa Park. Villa have also added some youth to the side by bringing back former players such as Jaden Philogene and Cameron Archer. Overall, it was a strong window for the Villains.

Bournemouth: C+

Bournemouth took a major blow this summer by losing their star man, Dominic Solanke, for a reported £60 million. Solanke’s quality was always going to be difficult to replace with a single signing, but Bournemouth has come close by bringing in Porto talisman Evanilson. Evanilson has been a consistent goal-scorer in both Liga NOS and the Champions League. It will be interesting to see if he can continue his goalscoring form in the Premier League. The Cherries also picked up some hidden talent in Julián Araujo and Dean Huijsen from top European clubs. Although starting keeper Neto joined Arsenal on loan, they arguably brought in an upgrade with Kepa—a player who has struggled in recent seasons but still has significant potential.
